Experiment § Controlling the quality of raw materials

We use infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) to perform rapid chemical analysis on the materials purchased in the factory. In most cases, the raw materials we use are quite stable, and accidents will happen once or twice occasionally. Take a certain PU modifier as an example: the red line of the spectrum on the left represents the spectrum of the new raw material. Comparing this spectrum with the old spectrum, it is found that there is a signal at the wavelength of 2260cm-1, indicating that there is unreacted isocyanate residue in the raw material. This phenomenon may cause moisture absorption, foaming, and viscosity changes in our products in the future, so we urgently coordinate with suppliers and ask them to check their manufacturing processes. In recent years, there are two reasons for the abnormality of a small number of raw materials: 1. Environmental protection laws and regulations have become increasingly strict. The substances used legally in the past are subject to new laws and regulations, and alternative raw materials with similar functions have to be used. 2. The price of raw materials has risen, and many raw materials have to seek alternatives with fewer price fluctuations. If the products made by these changes can still maintain the original specifications, the raw material factory will not notify the downstream industry. However, each kind of raw material has a large number of downstream industries, and the required characteristics are different. These requirements can not all be stated in the specifications. Therefore, there are very few products that meet the specifications of the raw materials. Quality is life. We will continue to work hard to live up to the trust of our customers.

Activity § Please be careful when you go home from work, safety is a blessing

Getting to work and getting off work is one of the most frequent transportation activities for everyone. Take Everwide Chemical as an example: Nearly 100 employees, 200 working days, and an average round trip of 10 kilometers to estimate, the annual journey to work is 200,000 kilometers, which can circle the earth 5 times! In terms of statistics, behind such a great number, traffic accidents are inevitable. In the past ten years, there have been about five or six traffic accidents involving colleagues in Everwide. Some cyclists fell into the fields, bumped at crossroads, slipped on wet roads on rainy days, were chased by illegal vehicles, or bumped into road trees in poor spirits. In these accidents, not only property was lost, but also people were injured. Fortunately, everyone can recover through recuperation. According to labor insurance regulations, traffic accidents on the way to and from work are regarded as a type of occupational disaster and can be compensated in accordance with the law. The company also provides additional group accident insurance for colleagues, and there are related claims for medical expenses, but these can't make up for the loss of physical health and mental health, and everyone must be careful about traffic safety. Several colleagues voluntarily held up signs after work last Friday, which read "Thanks to your hard work, please be careful when you go home from work. Safety and safety are a blessing. We all care about you." We would also like to borrow this photo to wish the readers of the biweekly newspaper all the safety.

Knowledge § Will adding fume silica or carbon black to the resin formulation affect the adhesion strength?

In the Silicon system, Fume silica is a very good reinforcing agent, which can increase the intermolecular force and improve the tensile strength and adhesive strength of the colloid after curing. Adding fumed silica to Silicon will make the product look slightly white misty, which is it's characteristic. In other resin formulations, the addition of a small amount of fumed silica will not affect the adhesive strength, but when the amount of addition is large enough that the viscosity increases significantly, and the resin appears thixotropic, the resin’s ability to penetrate the substrate will become poor and adhesive strength will be adversely affected. Generally speaking, carbon black is added to the resin formulation for dyeing, and the addition amount is only about 1%, so it will not affect the adhesion strength, but there are a few exceptions. Carbon black is a reinforcing agent for rubber systems. Adding carbon black will make the colloid harder, especially in soft resins. Because the addition of carbon black makes the colloids of many soft resin systems harder, the toughness decreases, resulting in poor adhesion strength.

Living § "Self-assessment": the perspective of others

"Self-assessment" is a very important skill. We predict the possible results based on the conditions we have and this is called "self-evaluation." When looking for customers to cooperate with, we will evaluate the transaction opportunities based on the customer's needs and the characteristics of our products. When we go to work, we guess the possibility of promotion based on the tasks delivered by the boss and our own performance. We can decide our actions based on the results of the "self-assessment": if it is good, keep it and if it is bad, modify and improve, and then seek improvement. Once the "self-assessment" is inaccurate, the consequences are quite serious, because we also make mistakes in the actions we decide based on the evaluation results. Take R&D work as an example. If "self-assessment" finds many shortcomings, we should find ways to ask more, learn more, and enrich ourselves. If the experience and strength are not good, but the "self-assessment" feels good, not only will I find myself wasting my time, but also make mistakes in front of the boss and customers. "Self-assessment" is for your own reference. We can only strive for many things in the process, and the final result is determined by the external environment, and we can only accept it. For example, whether you can go to National Taiwan University or not is determined by the entrance exam and has nothing to do with your "self-assessment." Whether the product can be traded or not is the customer's decision and has nothing to do with your "self-assessment". It is the boss, client, and colleague that determine your ability to work, and it has nothing to do with your "self-assessment." Therefore, the effectiveness of "self-assessment" needs to be constantly corrected and checked from the perspective of others. Take last year's promotion of ISO14001 and OHSAS18000 certification as an example: "Self-assessment" is like an internal audit. Internal audits are not just written by themselves, they must be conducted in accordance with the training rules of internal auditors. The awareness of internal audits must be consistent with that of external audits to help promote certification. The better the internal audit is done, the fewer problems during the external audit (certification). Internal audits cannot replace external audits. Whether or not to obtain certification is ultimately an external audit decision.
