Experiment § Inorganic Adhesive

ree

Inorganic adhesives are a new field for Everwide. Their key feature is the ability to withstand temperatures above 1000 °C while exhibiting an extremely low coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE). Organic adhesives, by contrast, rely on high bonding strength to overcome the mismatch in CTE between the adhesive and the substrate. Inorganic adhesives typically exhibit a bonding strength of less than 50 kgf/cm², which makes CTE compatibility with the substrate crucial at elevated temperatures. Everwide has developed two inorganic adhesives, FH007 and FH017. When subjected to a 1300 °C torch flame at a distance of 1 cm for 30 seconds, both materials showed no significant structural damage (Figures 1 and 2). Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) revealed residual weights of 97.1% and 99.9% at 800 °C, respectively (Figure 3). The coefficients of thermal expansion were 7.5 and 17.2 µm/(m·°C) (Figure 4, heating rate: 10 °C/min), making them suitable for bonding ceramics (e.g., alumina) and metals (e.g., stainless steel, aluminum alloys). Inorganic adhesives are commonly formulated with water as the solvent. During the heat-curing process, water evaporates, and the effect of the released vapor on surrounding components must therefore be evaluated. Inorganic adhesives do not adhere to plastics or rubbers, and since these materials themselves cannot withstand high temperatures, their combination with inorganic adhesives is not considered. Activity § Learn by Playing, Play to Learn

ree

This year, we once again held the three-day event” Everwide Chemistry ING”. During the program, students engaged in a variety of hands-on experiences: observing the thermal insulation of ablation materials; dissecting fish and pig eyes to explore the mysteries of life science; and conducting experiments to compare mass before and after reactions, thereby verifying the law of conservation of mass. In addition to experiments, participants also visited Everwide’s production facilities to gain first-hand insights into chemical manufacturing processes. This year’s event also highlighted Antoine-Laurent de Lavoisier,, introducing the story of the father of modern chemistry and how his work changed the world. By combining knowledge with practice, science is no longer just an abstract concept in textbooks but a tangible part of the real world. We look forward to experiencing the charm of chemistry together with you again next time!

Knowledge § Knowledge About Impact Strength (3)

The impact strength of a material is also related to specimen geometry. Some polymers exhibit ductile fracture with high impact strength when specimens are thin, but shift to brittle fracture with lower impact strength as thickness increases. Geometry can also cause stress concentration—for example, notches, edges, or sharp transitions—which may lead even a rigid material to behave in a brittle manner. Because numerous variables influence results, it is essential to note that impact strength is not a fundamental property of a material. That said, impact testing offers the advantages of being simple and fast, and data can be helpful in comparing relative toughness of different materials. It should be emphasized, however, that such rankings may vary depending on test method, specimen geometry, and temperature.

Living § My Experience in Event Planning

ree

As a member of this year’s Employee Welfare Committee, I had the opportunity to try organizing events. The first activity I hosted was an employee badminton tournament, which naturally came with both nervousness and excitement. Due to the venue's time limit, we needed to prepare in advance by setting appropriate competition rules and arranging all necessary details, including venue rental, registration, and scheduling. Before the event, I repeatedly rehearsed the flow in my mind to ensure everything would go smoothly on the day. Fortunately, the tournament went as planned and proceeded without issues. Later, I also organized an employee bowling competition. Compared with badminton, which carries a stronger sense of competition, I felt bowling placed more emphasis on interaction and camaraderie among colleagues. Through these experiences, I learned many valuable lessons—such as overall event planning, managing processes and details, teamwork, as well as post-event review and improvement. On a personal level, these activities also provided me with the opportunity to meet and communicate with many diverse individuals. This not only expanded my network but also exposed me to diverse perspectives, broadening my horizons. Lastly, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who supported and assisted me. There will surely be many occasions in the future when I will need your help again, and I would greatly appreciate your continued guidance.

Thank you—it truly means a lot to have you by my side!                — Author: Mr. Hung-Yi Fan
