Experiment § Epoxy Resin for Handicrafts

In handicraft production, immersion and casting techniques can be used to create works that combine practicality with aesthetic value, such as keychains, coasters, and bookmarks (Figures 1 and 2). These differ from the craft style presented in Issue 338. In this application, a low-viscosity epoxy resin, JD052-3, was selected. When mixed with pigments, the viscosity remains below 1000 cps, providing excellent leveling properties and a relatively long working time, which helps achieve flat and smooth surfaces. Even with added colorants, the resin maintains good transparency and effective bubble release. Taking the ocean-wave bookmark as an example, decorative elements are first placed into a silicone mold, followed by the slow pouring of JD052-3, allowing the resin to spread naturally and form a blue base layer (Figure 3). The resin cures at room temperature in approximately 24 hours. Colored white adhesive JA484 is then used for detailing; this adhesive cures rapidly within minutes. By gently blowing air, fine foam-like textures are created, resulting in a layered wave effect (Figures 4,5). The finished products remain clear, free of cloudiness, and display distinct colors. This resin system is compatible with various silicone molds, making it suitable not only for instructional use but also for creating unique commemorative items. Activity § Obtained ISO 50001 Energy Management System Certification

Everwide Chemical has successfully passed a third-party certification audit and obtained ISO 50001 Energy Management System certification. The certification scope covers the design, manufacturing, and sales of adhesive products (Figures 1, 2). During the audit, a total of 18 significant energy-using equipment items were identified and systematically categorized into five groups—compressed air, air conditioning, lighting, process systems, and others—for structured management (Figures 3–5). The implementation of the energy management system is expected to improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and support the company’s gradual progress toward net-zero carbon emissions.
Knowledge § What Is the Principle of Recyclable Epoxy Resins? (1)
Epoxy resins are thermosetting plastics. Before curing, they consist of low-molecular-weight resins and curing agents. When mixed, they form a crosslinked network structure that cannot be dissolved by solvents and does not melt at high temperatures, and is therefore generally regarded as non-recyclable. Many approaches to recycling epoxy resins have been proposed, and their underlying concepts are largely similar. Specific chemical structures are introduced into the resin system; these resins still react with curing agents to form a crosslinked network. When the cured material is immersed in specific chemical agents, these agents react with the introduced structures in the resin, causing cleavage of the network and decomposition into low-molecular-weight fragments that can be dissolved and regain flowability. These decomposed products can then be combined with fresh resin to form a new crosslinked network, thereby meeting the requirements for recyclable use.
Living § Will Your Job Still Exist in Three Years?

Living in a rapidly changing era, I have come to realize that the workplace is no longer a stable safe haven, but a challenge that requires constant evolution. Will Your Job Still Exist in Three Years? divides professional roles into three types: craftsmen, nomads, and managers. Craftsmen build products, nomads identify market needs, and managers integrate resources and lead teams. While managers may not excel at making products or selling, they play a critical role in bringing people together to achieve shared goals. Reflecting on myself, I recognize that I have not yet fully developed these capabilities, which reminds me of the importance of continuous learning and trying new things. One message that resonated strongly with me is the warning not to become someone who hesitates to act and later feels regret. This encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone, such as choosing to intern during my senior year rather than avoiding real workplace challenges. After reading this book, I am more aware of my own position and reminded to embrace change. I believe that through ongoing learning and exploration, I can continue to grow and create greater value in the workplace. — Author: Ms. Chun-Ya Chang
