Experiment § FX208-17 Solvent-Based Silicone Conformal Coating

Modern electronic systems such as electric vehicles, aircraft, and outdoor precision instruments rely on printed circuit boards (PCBs) as their core control units. When exposed to moisture, extreme temperature variations, or vibration, PCBs are susceptible to short circuits and failure. Silicone conformal coating functions as an invisible protective layer that safeguards these critical components. Silicone materials provide excellent performance across multiple dimensions. They offer a wide operating temperature range from −40°C to +200°C, maintaining flexibility under low temperatures while resisting yellowing and brittleness at high temperatures (Fig. 1). After curing, the coating forms a highly flexible film that effectively absorbs vibration and mechanical stress, thereby preventing damage such as cracking of electronic components. In addition, it provides strong moisture resistance and electrical insulation, preventing condensation on circuit surfaces and maintaining stable dielectric and flame-retardant properties (Fig. 2). The material also demonstrates resistance to UV radiation, ozone, and salt spray, significantly reducing the risk of leakage and short circuits (Fig. 3). This product is suitable for a wide range of demanding applications, including automotive electronics such as ECUs, onboard chargers, battery management systems, and lighting driver boards, as well as aerospace and marine electronics and other equipment exposed to harsh outdoor environments and frequent thermal cycling. With a moderate viscosity of 200 cps, the coating can be easily applied through automated spraying, manual aerosol application, dip coating, or brushing. After curing, it forms a stable and uniform film with an average thickness of approximately 250 μm. The formulation also includes a UV fluorescent indicator that emits blue fluorescence under ultraviolet light, enabling quick and reliable inspection of coating coverage and helping detect missed or uneven application areas (Fig. 4). — Author: Mr. Lin Zhe-Yong

Many people think AI is not very useful, but in reality, they simply have not provided it with enough information about their role, job responsibilities, and needs. We invited a professional instructor to conduct an in-house training session, guiding employees through hands-on exercises on how to use clear prompts to enable AI to effectively assist with presentation preparation, book summaries, key takeaways from YouTube videos, event posters, and process flowcharts (Figures 3 & 4). One employee shared, "I always thought AI's answers were quite ordinary. It turned out that my prompts just weren't clear enough." AI is ultimately a tool, and its results still depend on the user's thinking, judgment, and ability to use it correctly.
Knowledge § Why Phenolic Compounds Readily Discolor
When epoxy resins are cured with amine curing agents, phenolic compounds are commonly used as catalysts, including early-generation nonylphenol and bisphenol A, as well as cardanol and styrenated phenol. Phenolic compounds undergo slow oxidation in epoxy resin systems, producing colored quinone compounds. Some oxidation products are yellow, while others are red, resulting in color instability. The oxidation of phenolic compounds proceeds more slowly under acidic conditions but is accelerated in alkaline environments. This explains why the raw material appears light in color when first opened, yet gradually darkens over time after being mixed with an amine curing agent. Although antioxidants can retard discoloration, they cannot completely eliminate the problem.
Living § Employee Trip to Busan, South Korea

It was my first visit to South Korea. The patched roads, advertisements on electrical boxes, and the sound of tourists speaking Chinese created a familiar atmosphere. At the same time, the scarcity of people smoking while walking and the absence of stray cats and dogs were impressive and worth learning from. The highlight of the trip was the Skyline Luge, where the luge carts automatically connected to the chairlift for the uphill ride. The efficient design inspired me to think about applying the concept of accomplishing two tasks with one action to workplace improvement. Other memorable moments included meeting a group of cheerful kindergarten children at the beach, enjoying the night cruise on the Suyeong River despite the rain, and tasting a variety of kimchi. At a food stall in Nampo-dong, the only vendor sitting on an office chair had the busiest business, reminding me that improving the way we work can create greater value. The short travel distances between attractions such as the capsule train and Gamcheon Culture Village reflected Busan's thoughtful tourism planning.
