Experiment § Resin for CIPP Applications

Aging and damaged underground pipelines are a common problem. Conventional pipeline repair often requires road excavation, making the process time-consuming and labor-intensive. CIPP (Cured-in-Place Pipe) is a trenchless rehabilitation method that requires only access pits to rehabilitate existing pipelines. The process begins by impregnating a liner with resin (Figure 1). The resin-impregnated liner is then transported to the job site and inverted into the existing pipeline through an access pit. Hot water is subsequently introduced to cure the resin, forming a new pipe within the existing damaged pipeline (Figures 2–4).The resin must have a working time of more than 36 hours to prevent premature viscosity buildup and curing. Excessive viscosity buildup may cause the resin to cure during liner impregnation or create excessive resistance during liner inversion, potentially causing the liner to become stuck.Everwide has developed NF535-24, a resin specifically designed for CIPP applications. With an initial viscosity of only 2,000 cps at 25°C, NF535-24 offers excellent flowability, enabling uniform resin impregnation of the liner material while significantly reducing inversion resistance and air entrapment. The resin also maintains stable viscosity after 65 hours at 25°C (Figure 5), providing sufficient working time for liner inversion and other installation operations.NF535-24 provides a reliable material solution for trenchless pipeline rehabilitation.                            — Author: Ms. Dai Zhujun

About Us § Construction Begins on Our New Plant!

On October 6, Everwide officially commenced construction of its new plant with a simple yet dignified groundbreaking ceremony attended by invited guests and employees. This will be Everwide’s sixth plant. The project received financing of NT$944 million from banks under the SME Accelerated Investment Loan Program and qualified for interest subsidies from the SME Development Fund. We would like to thank the representatives and guests who attended the ceremony, including InvesTaiwan under the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Douliu Service Center of the Industrial Park Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Douliu Industrial Park Manufacturers Association, Mega International Commercial Bank Co., Ltd., Architect Hsiao Cheng-Wen, Precision Construction, and Digiwin Software Co., Ltd., among others. The new plant is planned to feature an automated warehousing system and incorporate smart manufacturing concepts. New equipment will also be installed to support new production operations, presenting a new challenge for Everwide. We will share further updates on the construction progress in due course.

Knowledge § Why Are Anaerobic Adhesives Packaged in LDPE Plastic Bottles? (1)

During storage, anaerobic adhesives may generate free radicals unexpectedly. If left unchecked, these free radicals can trigger polymerization, causing the entire bottle of adhesive to harden. To prevent this, stabilizers are added to the formulation to eliminate unwanted free radicals and maintain adhesive stability during storage.

Living § One Stone at a Time, Protecting the Forest

Handcrafted trail construction uses manual labor and simple tools to build trails while following the natural terrain, using locally available materials, and minimizing ecological disturbance. This helps improve trail sustainability and preserve the integrity of the surrounding environment. I signed up for a sustainable trail restoration project in Xitou Forest Recreation Area, initially thinking I would simply be moving rocks. However, after participating, I realized that the limited access within the forest made construction even more challenging. Tools, stones, soil, and even timber all had to be passed along a human chain and carried to designated locations. Transporting the materials alone required considerable time and physical effort. Once trail excavation began, we divided the work among digging soil, clearing roots, and driving wooden stakes. We also had to repeatedly inspect the trail as a whole and ensure a smooth walking surface. Every detail required careful review. In short, building a handcrafted trail demands not only physical strength but also an eye for aesthetics. It is far more challenging than I had imagined. Although I was exhausted by the end of the activity, I felt a deep sense of respect and gratitude for nature and the people who came before us. The trail we walk today is the result of their hard work. If I ever hike along a trail I helped build, I will proudly tell my companions, “Hey, I helped build this trail you're walking on!”                                                    — Author: Ms. Chen Jin
