Low Dielectric Constant Photo-curing Cable Reinforcement Adhesive

Author: Lin Ya-Ting and Lu Yi-Ru

Based on the requirements of 5G mobile communications, such as high-speed transmission, wide connectivity, and low latency, the development of high-speed streaming has been driven, and high-speed signal transmission relies on antennas with high transceiver efficiency and low dielectric loss transmission media. As the demand for low-dielectric-related materials continues to increase, the amount of data transmission also increases significantly, and the transmission rate becomes faster and faster. Therefore, transmission cables, as the medium for transmitting signals, play an important role in maintaining data transmission performance. The most critical factor for transmission cables, aside from achieving high-speed transmission, is the low dielectric loss of the insulating material and insulating pure rubber in the copper foil substrate structure and the low dielectric properties of the UV adhesive material for cable reinforcement. These requirements are essential for transmission cables.

Currently, the dielectric constant of UV cable reinforcing adhesives available on the market ranges between 3 and 5. To meet the customer's requirement of a dielectric constant of less than 3, a low-dielectric-constant UV adhesive has been developed. This type of adhesive material (FR509-4, FR509-5) is a photo-curing adhesive that has been developed for reinforcing PVC/PET/PI and metal joints to prevent cable detachment during bending, which could cause short circuits. Moreover, it dries quickly on the hardened surface and does not leave any sticky residue or attract dust, making it ideal for mass production in the electronics industry.
