Experiment § Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy

Customer demand for optics is increasing day by day. Everwide's old machine for testing the visible-ultraviolet spectrum could no longer be loaded due to the increased life and frequency of use. The company purchased a new analytical instrument Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy, Figure 1, 2). The dual-beam design allows light to penetrate, absorb, or reflect through the sample and standard to obtain experimental data (Figure 3). The instrument can measure the spectrum of the penetration and absorption rates of 190~1100nm wavelength. Through the transmittance spectrogram, the OD optical density value of a specific wavelength can be calculated, whether the black glue is effectively isolated from visible light can be measured, and the effect of the colloid blocking ultraviolet light or a specific wavelength can also be found (Figure 4). It is also possible to calculate the b* value of the CIELAB color space directly with software. In the case that the naked eye cannot identify the yellowing of the rubber or film (anti-fog film, anti-glare film, PSA, etc.), the comparison is carried out digitally. Instrument analysis is changing with each passing day, and we must constantly improve our capabilities to provide the services that customers need.

Activity § Respond to heart-warming peach activities

The "Heartwarming Peach" pastel activity is a public welfare activity launched by Hong Kong Little Ear Studio following the celebration of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. With the theme of Japanese harmony pastel painting birthday peach, teachers and enthusiasts worldwide were invited to participate in the grand event, and the proceeds were donated to charity. Teacher Cai of Everwide’s pastel class provided materials and invited colleagues to respond. Creative painting is fun and heals the mind through the slow way of painting (Figure 1-3). The works will be mailed to Hong Kong for exhibition, and if there are enough entries, they will apply for the Guinness World Records (Figure 4, 5)!

Knowledge § What is the general thermal conductivity?

The thermal conductivity is measured in W/mK. Metals have high thermal conductivity, such as gold (345), silver (450), copper (483), aluminum (300), and iron (132). Metal oxides are much worse, such as alumina (30-40), zinc oxide (36), and magnesium oxide (42). Other inorganic data are as follows: crystalline silica (10), amorphous silica (1), silicon carbide (350), aluminum nitride (170), boron nitride (250), and diamond (1400). General organic resin (0.3), air (0.03). The thermal conductivity of air is very poor, and the thermal conductivity of organic resins is not very good, which is why the thin gap between the heat-generating component and the heat-dissipating component should be filled with thermal paste, thermal adhesive, or thermal padding.

Living § Yunlin's peace meal

For me, Yunlin was a holiday destination during winter and summer vacations when I was a child. I remember most the annual Lantern Festival in Ma Mingshan to eat together. I vaguely remember that my aunt said she would take us to "Dinner banquets," and I didn't understand the Taiwanese in her mouth then. I remember my aunt telling us to prepare plastic bags and eat hard later! Dinner banquets are held on a rotational basis in many villages. Every household came prepared, and there were many pots and pans throughout the field, including fragrant oily rice, sesame oil chicken, pickle duck, etc. For me, the biggest worry is not knowing where to start eating when it comes to starting. This year, I drove to Tong'an Village, Dongshi Township. Before the event, the North and South flags will enter the venue, followed by the VIPs of this custom. The VIP shouted, "Start"! Booming cannons rang out, and thousands of people began to feast and enjoy the love feast shared by the villagers. Since then, the food competition has begun, and which family has good craftsmanship; we will go to the house of the person with good craftsmanship to eat. The event site was like a locust transit, swept away after a while. This meal event became an intangible cultural asset of Yunlin County in 2014. The activities change so much every year people can't help but wonder, what is the sense of cultural ritual passed down from year to year? Or a sense of settlement cohesion? The only certainty is that the activities are all the same fun. Welcome interested partners to pray for the Lantern Festival next year!
